On July 14, 2011, Ed Thaete retired after serving over 30
years with the Anaheim Police Department. We say good-bye to a very special
friend. Ed not only served the community, but he served his fellow officers and
jailers as a member of the APA executive board. Ed worked hard with the APA and
APD administration, to insure that sworn officers and jailers were properly
represented. Through the tough times and
good times Ed was there, making sure our voices were heard.
On July 14, not only did Ed retire from the Anaheim Police
Department, but he also resigned from the APA executive board. Replacing Ed will be no easy task, but I
truly believe that I can continue to provide the service Ed did on the
Executive Board to all officers and correction officers. I have been the representative for team 4 for
the past two years. I believe in insuring that every officer and jailer is
provided the best representation. Many
of you know that I am not afraid to voice my opinion, whether or not it was
popular with the administration. If it was not in our best interest, I would
make sure they knew where we stood. At the same time if the administration
needed me to pass the word out to officers, I would insure that the word was
delivered, even if it was not popular, I would make sure you all understood the
reasons behind many of the administrations decisions. I believe that we are a family and we must
look out for each other.
I look forward to representing all of you for the next
several months. Those of you, who know me, know that I will work hard for you;
I will make sure your voices are heard. We need to work together, especially in
the coming months when our pensions and benefits will be under attack by those
who feel that we are overpaid. It is going
to get tougher before it gets easier; we are going to have to stand united and
fight for what we’ve all earned.
I want to thank the APA executive board for appointing me to
the Sgt-at Arms position and giving me the opportunity to do more for my
brothers and sisters. If there is anything I can do for any of you, please
don’t hesitate to stop me in the hallways or gym and let me know.
Thank you all for your support and please join me in wishing
Ed Thaete a wonderful and long retirement. “Remember wear your vest and be
careful out there.” (Ed Thaete 2011)
