A
group of APD retirees meet every-other Tuesday morning for
breakfast. There is no organization and it’s just fun to get
together to talk under pleasant circumstances, not at a funeral. Up
to this point over 200 people have come to breakfast at one time or
another and our members are now living nationwide. All retirees,
spouses, former and current APD employees are welcome.
Reservations are not required.
Here is a little
bit of history about the group. Back in 1988 when Al Rogers (retired
lieutenant) was battling cancer, some of his golfing buddies, Dwight Clark
(retired sergeant), Dave Michel (retired chief) & Luther Mitchell (a
good friend of Al’s from high school), would take Al out to breakfast on
occasions to give him and his wife, Betty, a break. Little by
little, more of us found out about it and were invited and eventually
there were seven of us. There was no organization or regularity,
just when Al or someone else felt like breakfast. After Al’s death
in July, 1989, we decided to continue getting together on a regular basis,
and started inviting others to attend.
A few OTH notes:
Christmas:
It that time again, for us to muster our forces to
come to the aid of some 1500 Kids on December 20th (11 AM)
for the Annual Saint Vincent de Paul Christmas Party. The
Anaheim Phoenix Club of 1340 Sanderson,
Anaheim
92806, once again invites us to brighten this Christmas for
Children. These Kids were selected to attend, because
either one or both of their parents are in Jail or serving
long time Prison sentences. The incarcerated
themselves applied to SVDP to have their Children invited to
a nice Christmas meal and receive a lovely gift from Santa
Clause Himself. In the past the Ancient Order of
Hibernians (all 4 Orange County Divisions), Council 13311 of
the Knights of Columbus, the Staff of the Dept of Motor
Vehicles, the SVDP Ministry of Santa Clara de Asis of Yorba
Linda and the Los Angeles Police Emerald Society have come
together to brighten the holiday season for some very needy
young people. Guests of Honor include Father Michael
Hanifin from SCDA Parish, Anaheim Police Chief John Welter
and many other dignitaries from thorough out
Orange
County
. If you have time to spare to help celebrate Christ's
Birthday with there grateful little people call event MC

Fred Davis: Evelyn
Davis advised that her husband Fred has been feeling poorly
all summer ever since July. He has problems keeping
food in his stomach and has lost 40 pounds. On October 16 he
was admitted into the hospital and transferred to a care
center for physical therapy. The doctors still don’t know
what the problem is he is very weak and can’t walk.
It
is anticipated that Fried will be in the care center for at
least a month. He is depressed and would enjoy hearing
from his friends.
