MORE
ABOUT THE ANAHEIM
POLICE OFFICERS' HONORARY ASSOCIATION
The
Anaheim Police Officer's Honorary Association was established in
1979 by a group of Anaheim Police Officers and businessmen to
promote and maintain a relationship between the Anaheim Police
Department and the business community and to create and administer
the Anaheim Police Survivors and Scholarship Fund.
The
Anaheim Police Officer's Honorary Association is a non-political,
non-profit organization. As such, the APA Honoraries do not
take a position on any policy or action of the Anaheim Police
Association, the Anaheim Police Department or the City of Anaheim.
WHAT
IS THE SURVIVORS AND SCHOLARSHIP FUND?
The
Fund is a tax exempt Trust that was established to financially
assist the family of any Anaheim Police Officer who should lose
his or her life while in the performance of his or her job.
This assistance is temporary until the family begins receiving
funds from the State Retirement System, which usually takes 60-90
days. The purpose of the Fund is to attempt to lessen the
trauma of such a loss by alleviating some of the financial worry
based on each family's need. In addition there is a
scholarship program through which the Fund annually awards
scholarships to children of Anaheim officers attending community
colleges or universities. The Board of Trustees of the
Survivors and Scholarship Fund consists of three Honorary members,
three APA Executive Board members and the Anaheim Chief of Police.
HOW
ARE THE FUNDS RAISED FOR THE SURVIVORS AND SCHOLARSHIP FUND?
The
Trust Fund has reached its present size by annual fund-raisers
hosted jointly by the APA and the Honoraries. For the past
twelve years, the Honoraries have hosted a Casino Nite at the end
of September. The Fund also receives some individual and
organizational donations.
Independent
donations made to the Trust and are tax deductible. The
Trustees administer the Fund's investment portfolio. Each
year the Trustees approve the amount of money to award in
scholarships to the children of Anaheim Police Officers. The
amount varies every year.
