The Anaheim Police Explorers Post # 249 has a competition team that recently attended the Annual “Ex-Con (Explorer Conference)” competition Saturday June 11th, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada! This was an “all day” competition held at the Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy which is the new Police and Fire careers school.  Ten Explorers and (4) advisors participated in several scenarios as police officers. The scenarios consisted of (6) team events and (5) individual/”walk-up” events.  Each event had 1st -5th place (A and B) trophies.  The obstacle and bike courses had 1st - 5th place medals, and there was a single 1st place trophy for the team that won the most in the new Fire Hose Tug of War event.

Anaheim came in 3rd place in the “Crime Scene Investigation” and 1st in the “Active Shooter” scenarios which just happen to be the two largest competitions. The Active Shooter scenario was a school shooting with 6 suspects and 15 victims already shot. There were 50 teams total at this years competition all aiming to take FIRST in this scenario. The room fell silent when Anaheim was identified as the 1st place team.

The Explorers did well and represented themselves and our department proudly.

Prior to this event, we traveled to Chandler Arizona and participated in their annual “Tactical Competition” and placed 1st in a “Multi-Agency Command Post” scenario. We were paired with Prescott, Arizona Explorers for this scenario.

The Anaheim Explorers are preparing for their next competition which will be held here in Orange County on August 27th – 28th. Wish us well!!!

The Anaheim Explorer program is currently the largest explorer post in Southern California with approximately 90 participants. We had close to 70 explorers successfully complete the 5 day “Live In” Explorer Academy held twice a year at Irvine Park. Anaheim Explorers brought home 8 awards in the February 2011 academy including the “Top Explorer” Award “Randall Gaston Award” named after our former Chief Randall Gaston. One explorer was named “Top Explorer” out of 180 explorers from all over Southern California.

We are currently preparing 17 explorers for the upcoming August 2011 Academy.

Wish us well!!!
